Obama, Buhari, and the Preventing of a Free Biafra

“The Buhari administration I think has really reenergised the bilateral relationship in a fundamental way,” a United States official said as reports that it is seeking approval to sell Nigeria 12 A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft.

Either the Obama administration is ignorant of Buhari’s human rights abuses against the Igbo in Biafra or they are complicit. Buhari has often used Boko Haram as a foil to generate arms and sympathy from the West.

The United States has begun to strengthen ties with Buhari ever since he attained power in Africa’s most populous country.  The previous President, Goodluck Jonathan was a friend of Israel and yet spurned the Obama administration. With Buhari now as President the tables have turned.  Nigeria is now ruled by a former military leader and an avowed Islamist.

Given Obama’s engagement and pasting over of Buhari’s own abuses, little doubt remains that Obama knows of and believes Buhari’s Islamist background is a strength.

Obama has also strengthened US Special Forces throughout Africa, placing Nigeria as a priority.  Yet, given reports that Buhari has used weapons given to him to fight Boko Haram, on the Igbo in South East Nigeria as well as willfully encouraging Fulani Tribesman to butcher unarmed Igbos, one wonders why improving ties between the US government and Buhari is something to be cheered from the perspective of the USA.

Buhari has allowed the Fulani herdsman to run wild and murder the Igbo. Independence movements have grown, and a near unanimous belief that Buhari is complicit pervades Biafra.

At the end of the day, the Obama foreign policy has actively sought out to strengthen Islamic regimes at the expense of moderate actors, whether they have been secular Islamic states, Sub-Saharan Christians, or Israel. By selling military armaments to Buhari, the Obama administration has pitted itself against Israel’s growing presence in the region and has hampered Israel’s ability to militarily support an independent Biafra.

Does Israel have a Biafra Strategy?

In 1914 the British took three distinct areas, Lagos Colony, Hausa, and Biafra and forced them together. This action was congruent with a similar policy in Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, and India.  The British had a particular paternal view of their colonies and because they decried the seemingly evil policies of France, Germany, and Belgium, they promoted their policies as civilized and caring.

Nothing is further from the truth. Most of the countries listed above are still suffering from the conflict oriented policy of the British Empire in the early 20th century.  This policy thrived on forcing rivals to share space and backing non-indigenous peoples as rulers or agitators in that space.

The Igbo in Nigeria make up the third largest tribe, but in Biafra they are well in the majority. The fact that Nigeria as  a British backed government has forced the Igbo to suffer at the hands of their worst enemies is only due to British interests. Before 1914 the Hausa never had access to the cost. The British backed them by forcing Biafra into Nigeria, thus paving the way to suppressing what they saw as the biggest threat to British control, Biafran independence.

A similar set of circumstances occurred in Israel.  As the early Jewish residents busied themselves with building their Land and preparing to bring more and more Jewish exiles back home, the British decided to offset the rapid Jewish growth with new Arab workers and immigrants.  To be fair this policy began with the Turks who allowed and encouraged Arab migration from other areas in the Ottoman Empire to the Land of Israel in order to offset the success of the early Zionists.  Arabs often point out that they had lived in the Land of Israel for centuries, but they use statistics from 1912, because that was the year they finally became significant enough as a population throughout the Land. The British continued this policy, going as far as banning Jewish immigration altogether.

As mentioned above, a similar policy was implemented in Iraq, Afghanistan, and India. The British kept their rule in a all of these places by stirring discontent and thwarting independence movements through bribery and conflating the local leadership and colonial government.

Israel Needs a Clear Biafra Strategy

To truly be free and rectify the sins of European colonialism, Biafra must be allowed its independence.  Israel needs to harness its resources and influence to force this outcome.  They can do this by using the South-Sudan model or by encouraging its new found East Africa partners to push for Biafran independence.

If Israel fails at setting a clear strategy in a flailing Nigeria, it risks losing a potential ally as well as a bulwark against expanding Islamic influence. Bibi has been adept at sensing and grabbing onto the shifting currents in the Middle East and Africa.  Biafra is key to his current strategy of building trusted and reliable allies in the former European colonies in Africa. It would be wise for him to formerly push for a stable and free Biafra.

Nigeria’s Second Genocide On Biafra Authorized By Muhammadu Buhari

Retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari has authorized a second genocide on Biafra, having directly participated in the first genocide of 1967—1970. In 1968, Buhari and his co-soldiers slaughtered over two million Biafrans at Owerri and most of those massacred were women and children. In 2016, Buhari has embarked on a second genocide on Biafrans under the guise of Fulani Herdsmen.

These killer squads have already massacred thousands in Agatu in Biafraland. Between 25th and 27th of April 2016, over one thousand Biafrans in Enugu were murdered by Buhari’s Fulani Herdsmen. Not satisfied by the numerous bloodsheds, Buhari’s blood-thirsty Fulani Herdsmen moved over to Delta State and killed hundreds of Biafrans. In all these killings Buhari, who was quick to sympathize with the government and people of Belgium when terrorists killed a few people there, never uttered a word in repudiation of the heinous crimes committed by his acolytes. Even the Department of State Services (DSS), who gleefully reported the discovery of bodies of five dead Fulani men (but only named four of them) buried in mass graves, have been silent on the ongoing genocide on Biafrans, which is contrary to section-2(3a) of CAP 74 LFN 2004.

The lameduck Governors of all the States in Biafraland remain hopeless, helpless, and useless in the face of Buhari’s men onslaught on defenceless Biafrans. It will be recalled that these are the same State Governors who connived with Buhari and his murderous security agencies to kill Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) peaceful protesters. Today, the same slave masters from the North led by Buhari are killing Biafrans  but this time under the guise of Fulani Herdsmen. Yet, the same Governors who ordered IPOB peaceful protesters to be shot at sight for merely agitating are now impotent before the marauding band of stark illiterate and brainless cattle herders from Buhari’s tribe.
Following the helplessness of these lameduck Governors is the cowardly silence of those from Biafraland who call themselves elites, party chieftains, elder statesmen, and members of the highly compromised and moribund organization known as Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

It goes without saying that these genocidal killings can never be tolerated in the Northern or Western regions of Nigeria and if it happened by accident, the elites, the elder statesmen and regional organizations such as OPC, YCE, ACF, NEF and others will be in the forefront of demands for immediate stoppage of the carnage and the institution of panel of enquires in addition to compensation of affected victims.

A few days ago, a group of old men led by a former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo paid brown-envelop journalists to publish in the newspapers that they are the leaders of IPOB. But these old men have remained blind, deaf, and dumb in the face of the recent genocidal acts committed by Buhari’s killer squads on the people they are supposed to be leading. If truly they are leaders of Biafra, then why have they remained silent when their people are being slaughtered like animals?

But the fact is, be it Buhari and his criminal gangs masquerading as Fulani Herdsmen or the  congenitally chicken-livered lameduck Governors in Biafralnd or is it the cowardly Biafran elites and money-minded Ohanaeze Ndigbo members, there is an ongoing genocide in Biafraland which is a repeat of previous genocide of 1967-1970. The world must take notice that Biafrans are on the verge of being exterminated and the supervisor of this extermination exercise is no other than Retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari. At the appropriate time, Buhari and his co-killers must pay for their heinous crimes against humanity.

[podcast] From Nigeria to Ghana: Free Biafra

While attending the Africa Israel Initiative I had  the opportunity to sit down with our very own Oscar Lee face to face in Accra, Ghana.  Besides being a gracious host and a friend we shared some time on the issue of Biafra and what Israel can do to help. Have a listen!

Is Nigeria the Only Country Where Idiots Rule?

For over four decades now, another  Nigeria-Biafra war has been looming.  These two entities, forced together by the British in 1914 have increasingly moved towards direct confrontation for the first time since 1970.

Over time the Nigerian government has become comprised of mainly Muslim participants from the North whose occupations are mainly cattle herders with little or no education.  These Muslims served in the Nigerian military, which adds to their inability to govern correctly and institute sound economic policies.  The world has begun to label Nigeria “the only country where idiots rule.”

The Oxford English Dictionary defines genocide as “the deliberate and systematic extermination of an ethnic or national group …” The UN general assembly also defined it in 1946 as “… a denial of the right of existence of entire human groups”.  Biafrans have consistently charged that the Nigerian government has in fact always had a design to exterminate the Igbos of Biafra.

In recent times their sole aim has been focused on exterminating Biafrans, made up of mostly Christians with Hebraic roots and those who have rejoined the Jewish Nation  Biafrans control some of the most fertile grazing lands and oil reserves in Nigeria.

The current attacks on Biafra have been traced to the government supported Hausa/Fulani herdsmen  who are actually full members of the Islamist Boko Haram.  According to Article 2 of the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide-to which the US and all current members of the UN Security Council are party to, genocide encompasses not only the deliberate killing of members of a “national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such,” but also “deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.” Both clauses are occurring in Biafra region in Nigeria right now.

This situation was premeditated by mainly Islamic extremists within the Nigerian army.  These elements have been looking to the turn the heat up. Since protests broke out we have seen the systematic killing of innocent and unarmed civilians by the Nigerian military.  Despite the fact  that the army chief has admitted that his men indeed killed Biafrans indiscriminately as we have witnessed in Aguta, Aba, Enugu, Igweocha, little or nothing has been done by the  Buhari government to bring the attackers to justice.

Biafrans are still waiting for world leaders and lovers of democracy and freedom to step in and protect civilians who have suffered loss of life, confiscations and destruction of properties.  The agenda is clear.  The Arab and Islamic world is pushing for Nigeria to become a full member of the Islamic world.

Evidence of another genocide

Biafra has now become the headquarters of a military battalion set up in order to kill innocent young men and women and even children who seek self-governance.   These people strive for better lives due to decades of marginalization from previous and current governments. This has been reported by numerous human rights groups like HURIWA which have made it clear that the Buhari regime’s genocidal intent is beyond the pale of acceptable civilized behavior.

The international community must act and act swiftly to avert another civil war.  This time, an explosive war pitting the Judeo-Christian Biafra against the Radical Islamic movement that has overtaken Nigeria has the potential to become a wider regional war than the previous conflict which occurred over 45 years ago.

Time is of the essence.

[Podcast] Biafra Message to Israel: “Help us! Buhari is a Murderer!”

Shortly before I joined a live Radio Biafra broadcast, I had the opportunity to interview Dr. Clifford Iroanya the Coordinator of the Coordinators for the Indigenous People of Biafra.  We touched on a variety of subjects, including the evil of the Buhari regime and what Biafra wants.

Included in the podcast:

  • What is IPOB?
  • History of Conflict
  • Who is Buhari?
  • Is Nigeria Muslim?
  • Biafrans consider themselves Israelites
  • Why Israel needs to help Biafra

Listen below to a clip of yesterday’s Radio Biafra interview.

Nigeria is a Sinking Ship

From East to West, North to South the Biafran conflict is heating up globally. The Biafran war, fought between Nigeria and Biafra from the years 1967-1970 has been recorded as the most brutal civil war any black Nation has ever witnessed. With the help of the British, innocent young people, mostly women and children numbering close to 6 million lost their lives.

The leadership the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has infused  a new spirit into the struggle for self-determination.This spirit has awoken from its slumber the drive to  exhibit the  fundamental human right under the rule of law to protest the Buhari lead Administration.  This Nigerian government has unleashed terror on the innocent citizens who are seeking a better life and good governance for their children and future generation.

Scores have been killed by the Department of State Security (DSS), including those shot by the combination of both military and police personnel.  Despite Amnesty International being aware of these  heinous crimes, the United Nations lead by Ban Ki-Moon and world leaders have kept quiet.  Nigerian security forces continue to kill Biafrans in secret, attacking street vendors who sell newspapers with anything concerning Biafra.  The Buhari led government has even destroyed Coca-cola customized products and their warehouses that were made especially for Biafra awareness.

Is Nigeria meant to be democratic or an autocracy?

The Nigerian state is presently suffering from governmental incompetence, human rights abuses, and a lack of justice for the ordinary man. Ironically the government’s policies have backfired. Buhari believes the killing of unarmed innocent civilians will subdue the struggle. Yet by attacking and jailing Nnamdi Kanu they have ended up making him the most influential personality of the century.  The struggle for self-determination of the people of Biafra has now become a global one.

The crux of the issue now is convincing those who think the Biafran protests are merely a mirage that they should wake up from and face the new reality that there is no going back.  The message to the world must be clear that the level of insecurity that Nigerian government operates in, is total. We don’t want what happened in 1967-1970 to happen again. Despite the Biafran willingness  to lead a peaceful struggle, how long shall we fold our arms and watch our citizen been killed in cold blood?

“I will lead a 500,000000 Million man march that will crack Nigeria globally!” Those were the words of the brave Biafraian and we are getting close to it. Both local and International media, organizations, world leaders are now getting up to see the injustice that has been meted out to the people of Biafra by the central authorities in Buhari’s so called Nigeria.

Considering where we began, much has been achieved and yet more needs to be done.  There is no going back on Biafran independence. There is a deep lack of credibility in Nigeria concerning the independence of the judiciary system.  This has added to the ordinary citizen lacking any confidence in all aspects of the government’s relationship with the broader society. We have all seen this in the ongoing case of Nnamdi Kanu the Leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra and the Nigerian government.

The Mohammed Buhari lead Administration has taken the whole pf Nigeria for granted and it is very imperative to remind him that he can’t eat his cake and have it also.  It is not going to be like those days when he refused to appear before a tribunal on charges corruption.

We call on all well-meaning lovers of freedom especially the Israeli government to take a stand and look into the issue of Biafra and Nigeria’s Christians in order to help lead them to freedom from the oppression of the Islamic state of Mohammed Buhari.

Why Biafra Matters to a Decolonized Africa

Across the African continent, foreign powers came from both the East and West, drawing artificial boundaries and using their control to plunder and ravage traditional communities. Nowhere else in the Eastern Hemisphere did humanity witness such a concerted effort to destroy once thriving communities.  From slavery (backed by both the Europeans and Arabs) to economic and political control, Africans were colonized in mind and body.

The current conflict in Biafra is a microcosm of a new sort of colonial struggle.  The slow creeping takeover of Southern Nigeria by Islam is no longer slow. Nigeria and other countries like it, where an admixture of various peoples were smashed together by the colonial powers have become even more susceptible to an Islam supercharged in a mission to gain control of Nigeria’s Southern region, which is where much of its industry and oil are.

Victims of Fulani Raids
Victims of Fulani Raids

An example of this are the raids by Northern Fulani herdsman have grown more punitive and destructive. This past week on February 28th Fulani herdsman killed at least 300 people in Agatu. One survivor said, “As we speak, Odigbeho-Agatu has been razed. The massacre there today (Monday) had no equal because Odigbeho is one of the most important and well-populated villages in Agatu. Our people were caught napping because we relaxed when we heard what we considered the cheering news that the federal government has intervened. Unfortunately, the Fulanis knew we had relaxed and took advantage of us to unleash a terrible massacre on us. As we speak, corpses litter everywhere in the village. I have been trying to reach many of my family members without success. We feel terribly let down by the government that announced a joint security team. We have not seen the security men- be they policemen or military, as I speak.”

Essentially the central government offers the Biafra region protection, but never enough against the raiders.  Both the central government and the Fulani are Muslim.  Along with the growing violence the Free Biafra movement has been hit hard recently.  Their leader Nnamdi Kanu is on trial for treason.  Biafrans have been outraged as they fear and feel a return to the turmoil that marked the Biafran Civil War, where 3 million were killed or starved to death between the years of 1967-1970.

The military and police have taken to killing unarmed protesters as the situation becomes increasingly bloody.

What makes Biafra all the more crucial for the future of Sub-Sahara Africa is that it is made up of an overwhelming number of Igbo.  The Igbo believe they are descended from Israel and self identify as Israelites.  With this in mind It is not surprising that in the Biafran Civil War, Israel actually gave supplies and support to the region.  The Nigerian dilemma essentially pits Islam, Christians, and the Igbo who have long struggled to reclaim their heritage from colonization against one another.

Biafra has become a battleground to learn whether Africa can prevent a continuance of colonial influence under the guise of a religious conflict or if it can rise and understand that much of the ideologies confronting one another were imported from those nations who forced both slavery and colonization on Africa.  That goes for both Christian Europe and Islamic Middle East.  The irony is that the Igbo, as they begin to decolonize their religion and culture, have exemplified far more indigenous behavior than their fellow Nigerians.  This is what makes Biafra important.  It is a region experiencing a return to its ancient Hebrew roots and should be supported in its desire and drive to do so.

There have always been those leaders who have argued for a Pan Africanism, as if Africa was ever pan or of one mold. It never has been.  Such assumptions are reactions to the trauma of being subjugated by foreign powers. What is important to understand though, is that Africanism is more about a return to accepting the fact that the artificial constructs of a post colonial Africa has essentially committed Africans to constant struggle within their current boundaries.

A free Biafra would be a recognition that the boundaries are meaningless and should be exchanged for a return to what was before.  This would go a long way to reconstructing Igboland to what it was before Europeans and Arabs uprooted it along with wreaking havoc across the rest of Africa.  Biafra should serve as a test case for other areas of Africa.
